# Introduction

Scale's information hierarchy is comprised of [Projects](https://docs.genai.scale.com/core-resources/project.md), [Batches](https://docs.genai.scale.com/core-resources/batch.md), and [Tasks](https://docs.genai.scale.com/core-resources/task.md). A Project consists of Batches and Tasks. Batches are an optional entity used to group Tasks within a Project. Tasks are a unit of work that needs to be completed by a contributor.

Within a Task, labeled data is represented in a hierarchy, where each level has relevant [Annotations](https://docs.genai.scale.com/core-resources/annotation.md) for that level. A Task consists of [Threads](https://docs.genai.scale.com/core-resources/thread.md), a Thread consists of [Turns](https://docs.genai.scale.com/core-resources/turn.md), and a Turn consists of [Messages](https://docs.genai.scale.com/core-resources/message.md).

More details about Scale's information hierarchy can be found under [Core Resources](https://docs.genai.scale.com/core-resources).
